How to perform

  1. 1.Hinge forward, free hand braced on a bench or knee
  2. 2.Row the bell to the waist, elbow tracking along the body
  3. 3.Drive the shoulder blade back at the top
  4. 4.Lower under control with no torso rotation

Common mistakes

  • Rotating the torso to help the weight up
  • Rowing to the chest instead of the waist — the back stops working

Tips

  • The single-arm format is great for evening out strength imbalances between sides

Limitations

Use caution with issues in: lower back. If you feel discomfort, reduce the range of motion or swap the exercise — ideally after consulting a coach.
